Meet Daniella
How would you describe your creative process?
As a mum of two I paint when I can! And I do paint a lot, normally at my studio table with shelves of glassware and vases for arrangements while watching Netflix or listening to music. I really get lost once I find the flow and find it easy to work through blocks when they happen.
What inspires you?The culture I grew up in was very much at the end of the pop art era, Warhol and Haring were still alive, MTV was in its early days and our tracksuits were neon! Nostalgia is at the heart of my work and I draw from the colours and emotions of my childhood. Since losing my dad prematurely last year, my youth is something I contemplate a lot, I’m extremely grateful for the life my parents gave me and the unwavering support they’ve given me.
How would you describe your artistic style?
Illustrative and semi-realistic with strong pop art influences.
What message and emotion do you hope to convey with your work?
After losing my dad suddenly last year my main motivation is to capture the little things; moments of peace, that first sip of coffee in the morning (while it’s still hot if you’re a parent!) or a cold glass of your favourite beverage after a long day at work. Life is what’s happening all around us and those precious moments should be savoured and celebrated.
